Girls Thrown From Car In Downtown Collision

Three girls asked William H. Wright of 180 Read Street for a ride in his car. They were taken to St. Vincent's Hospital in serious condition after being thrown from the automobile when a car driven by Joseph Dyer of Danbury collided with it at the corner of Fairfield Avenue and Main Street at 4 125 am.

Citizens National Bank Granted Charter for Putnam Absorbing First National

The Comptroller of the Currency approved forming Citizens National Bank of Putnam Connecticut to absorb the insolvent First National Bank. The bank will purchase the First National building and assets at full value to fund deposits in the new institution as plans proceed. Local organizers from Putnam and the Lordship Improvement Association, with no link to the old bank, will establish a new charter and elect officers by November 1 with monthly meetings starting at the second Wednesday.

Tragedy Follows Money Struggles In Marriage

Mrs Ida May McBride described a troubled first year of marriage to Arthur McBride who shot himself in front of his wife and her mother at 600 Lafayette Street. He struggled to earn money, they separated, and she recalled a tense quarrel over finances and jealousy. She also recounted an alarm clock thrown during a heated moment and a planned separation before the fatal act. The coroner was notified as the events unfolded.

Soviet Flag on Wrangel Island at Aug. 20 hoisting

The Krasny Oktlabr crew raised the Soviet flag on Wrangel Island on August 20, per the Aosta News Agency. An American and 11 Estonians were on the island. Russian infantry, dispatched from Petropavlovsk, aimed to seize inhabitants and shipping to establish Soviet ownership in the name of the Soviet government amid competing claims by the United States, England, Russia and Japan.
