Driver of Stopped Auto Is Held Negligent For Parkway Fatality
Deputy Coroner in Bridgeport clears Irene Spaldino of criminal liability in the Merritt Parkway death of Beatrice Morange, but finds Robert A Case negligent for causing the crash. Morange, 50, of Father Park Village, died when Spaldino's car, traveling 50 to 55 mph, struck the rear of a car stopped in the left lane, just after 4 am near New Canada. Case, a Jersey City resident, had stopped his auto after lights failed and fuse replacement was required. The inquest noted no intoxication by Morange or Spaldino but held Case responsible under General Statutes. The proceedings were delayed due to Case's immediate involvement with armed forces after the accident.
