Thermostat Firm Begins Work on Milford Plant Site

Ground was broken for a two million dollar Bridgeport Thermostat division plant in Milford. The one story facility will be 180000 square feet on 15 acres, nearly doubling the size of the current plant and housing offices, engineering, and lab. The project marks continued expansion for Robertshaw Fulton with new sites in Irwin Indiana Anaheim Long Beach and Toronto.

New Haven Sept 15 Vivien Kellems a Stonington manufacturer failed to qualify as an independent Republican candidate for governor on the November ballot but announced she would run as a write in candidate on a television broadcast over WNHC TV claiming political bosses of both parties kept her off the ballot.

Upton Beaten in N H Primary

Republican Senator Robert W. Upton of New Hampshire was defeated by U. S. Rep. Norris Cotton in a three way GOP Senate primary. Wes Powell, who once narrowly challenged Tobey, placed third. The NH result follows similar setbacks for incumbents in nine states as ballots chose nominees for 92 House seats and six governorships. Plan Offered To Lower Parkway Gas Prices

Hartford Sept 15 AP A compromise plan to lower parkway gas prices via new competition was presented to the Legislative Council by E Leroy Emanuelson executive director of the Connecticut Petroleum Industries Committee The plan proposes off parkway service areas with gas brands and restaurants near West Rock exit Wilbur Cross parkway New Haven Stations would avoid state royalties cutting prices and may offer overnight parking as a convenience to motorists The proposal will be considered when State Senator Oscar Peterson Jr meets with the motor vehicles subcommittee next Thursday with Highway Commissioner G Albert Hil and Emanuelson appearing the same day.

Fare Increase Granted On Bamum State Bus Line

The Public Utilities commission approved fare hikes for Bamum State Bus Line, raising cash fares from 10 to 15 cents and school fares from 5 to 6.25 cents. Two Condemned Convicts Surrender After Bloodhound Chase

In Carthage Mississippi on September 15 AP reports two condemned inmates Minor Sorber and Gerald Gallego gave up after a five day escape from Hinds county jail. Bloodhounds tracked Gallego to a briar patch while Sorber hobbled in from nearby brush. Both men claimed roles in the escape tied to slayings and jailer assault. Gallego had smashed jailer Landrum with a chair leg, and Sorber faced a death sentence for aiding a throat-slashing.
