74 Mile An Hour Wind Storm Strikes Bridgeport Area
A 74 mile per hour gale swept the Bridgeport area injuring one worker on a Stratford roof and causing outages. Roof worker Salvatore Garamella was instantly killed when wind tore a roof away at 266 Surf Avenue Stratford. His brother-in-law Thomas Longo and another man Lonszo were injured. Widespread damage included broken glass, downed poles, and electrical outages across Bridgeport Fairfield Southport and Weston. Police radio transmitters were struck by lightning and switched to emergency units. Temperature fell sharply from 85 to 68 within half an hour as the storm moved through with damaged windows trees and wires reported citywide.
