Four Protestant Groups Held Major Conferences in U S
A month of Christian gatherings in the United States drew a wide cross section of believers. World Presbyterian Alliance met at Princeton with 66 member churches from 46 countries, while the International Council of Christian Churches at Elkins Park and the World Anglican Congress at Minneapolis staged strong anti ecumenical and anti communism stances. The World Council of Churches assembly at Evanston urged unity in Christ as the world watches and called for prayers for justice and peace amid atomic age tensions. The Vatican warned that shared aims must not erode Catholic separation, while ecumenical efforts prompted debates on intercommunion and open door policies across denominations.
