Four Men Rescued After Runabout Sinks Off Bridgeport

Four anglers aboard the Caiais were rescued when their motor launch sank after being towed by the Bridgeport Port Jefferson steamer Park City five miles from the harbor. Owner Charles Meyers and three guests were saved as the hawser snapped and the men fell into the wake, later dried and taken below to recover. Meanwhile racing driver Paul Stevens, 26, was seriously injured in Nazareth Fair track crash. spectator Carl Kahler died. Stevens’ condition improved to not critical per update.

Bridgeport Ends All Night Owl Trolley Service

The Bridgeport trolley company will discontinue the hourly night owl trolleys on the Barnum and State and Stratford avenues lines starting tonight. The move follows alleged lack of patronage and risks leaving Bridgeport without overnight highway transport after 1 am if bus service isn’t provided. The night owls were introduced in wartime to serve late workers and operated from 1 to 2 am, with Barnum avenue trolleys at 15 minutes past the hour and Stratford avenue owls at 3 minutes after the hour.

Traffic Still Heavy Despite Few Accidents Reported

Traffic remained heavy with only two reported crashes last night. A collision at John and Mall involved Joseph Williams and a jitney bus, injuring Mrs Williams slightly. Another crash at Main and East Washington damaged both vehicles, with no serious injuries. Police expect today’s traffic to rival Saturdays high volume.

Hill Declares Innocent in Murder Case Fight Extradition

Seattle report says Harry Hill twenty two from Streator Illinois maintains innocence and will resist extradition after detectives pressed him with evidence in the murder of his mother Mrs Eliza Hill. He claims he was in Streator after the body was found and offers a traveling salesman explanation as authorities prepare to seek his return.

City Fireworks to Highlight Labor Day Park Program

Seaside Park will host a Labor Day program headlined by a fireworks display from the same company that produced the Lindbergh Day show in Wannington. The event includes a 1 pm handmade crafts exhibit by children, a 9 pm American Legion track meet with 140 runners, and a Norwalk Legion drill team demonstration. The fireworks will be limited to two pieces to prevent smoke from drifting toward surrounding land.

President Coolidge spent his last Sunday in the Black Hills as staff prepared for Washington departure. Readying for the trip he leaves memorials, gifts, and keepsakes from his three month Western stay including a huge Indian headdress, jewelry, animals, and homey needlework while noting no major outward change in appearance.

Milford Priest Dies in Hospital

Rev William Kelly, assistant pastor of St Marys church Milford, died at St Vincent's hospital Bridgeport after weeks of illness. Born in Hartford about 30, he studied at 81 Thomas Seminary and St Bernards Rochester. Survived by mother and sister in Hartford. Ordained 41 years ago in Hartford. Served Milford most of career, with stints in Waterbury before illness worsened. Continued on page four.

Boy Drowns in Lake at Holy Ghost Seminary Norwalk

A teenaged boy Stephen Szabo four teen of Paradise street drowned in the artificial lake at Ferndale Holy Ghost Fathers seminary in West Norwalk while attempting a swim with two companions. Brother Gordon King found the body. medical examiner William W. Travy ruled accidental drowning. Funeral services set for Tuesday.
