Fairfield Beach residents push for zone change to restrict housing

About 80 residents of Fairfield Beach from Reef Road to Pine Creek attended a Zoning Commission hearing at Town Hall to urge changing the district from 12 residential B to residential A. They argued the tighter rules would keep out undesirable elements, protect property values, and make Fairfield Beach more exclusive, with the majority seemingly in favor.

Four Barges Freed by Storm on Sound Recovered

A nor’easter swept across Long Island Sound as four drifting barges broke free from the Eugenia Moran and later were recovered. Captain W B Steples of the City of Brockton and Captain Joseph Hancott aided in reuniting the tugs and barges, with two towed to New Haven and others picked up by a coast guard cutter and an oyster schooner bound for Milford. The barges belonged to Stappard Sand & Gravel Co of New York City and were en route to Port Jefferson when adrift.

Auto plunges 100 feet into Niagara Gorge killing three

At Niagara Falls Ohio a Cleveland Heights couple Mr and Mrs Roy Desmond Huxley and their seven year old daughter died when their car veered off Ells street guard rail and plunged 100 feet to a rock ledge. The child died at a hospital two hours later.

Texas man testifies in flogging case against Cain Anderson

J R Richardson, a cotton picker, testified in District Court about a night assault at the Richardson home. He described four masked men flogging him his wife and daughter in law and said Cain Anderson, a wealthy farmer and derryman, is accused under the anti masking law. Osborne is also indicted awaiting trial.

Second lowest bidder awarded bridge contract

The Yellow Mill bridge commission awarded the electrical work for lighting the temporary Yellow Mill pond bridge to Eilverstone-Ervin, Inc., over Liberty Auto and Electric, which bid lower. Liberty, at 241 Connecticut Avenue, bid 610.75, while Eilverstone-Ervin, Inc. bid 628. The United Illuminating Company quoted 675. Secretaty Hill said he knew nothing of Liberty.
