Britons Break Drocourt-Queant Line In Major Advance

British and Canadian troops surged through the Drocourt-Queant fortifications in a dawn assault, driving five kilometres and capturing key positions including Cagnicourt wood and Mount Urcy. Le Transloy, Le ransloy, St Pierre Vaast wood fell as Haig pressed along a 33 mile front between the Scarpe and Somme.

Allies report 128032 prisoners since July 15

Paris dispatch states allied forces on the western front have taken 128032 prisoners since July 15 in an official statement. In the same period 2869 suns, 1724 minedrowers and 13783 machine guns captured. A separate report notes Louis Palaia of 152 Logan street arrested for alleged wife assault.

Large East Side Section Again In St Marys Parish

A major parish reorganization announced from St Marys and St Charles churches places parts of Blessed Sacrament and St Charles parishes back into St Marys starting Labor Day. St Marys now covers the east side from Pequonnock river to Central avenue, extends north to Barnum avenue, and bounds the waterfront. The Blessed Sacrament area between Central avenue and Yellow Mute is reassigned.

Labor Day Rally Echoes in Seaside Park Speech

Army Fliers Thrill City With Lofty Air Stunts

A squadron of 36 planes from Hazelhurst Field performed Labor Day air shows over Connecticut towns and Bridgeport. Two planes over Brooklawn Golf Club landed after one ran low on fuel. Five aviators flew in pairs, with Sergeant William Coons and Lieutenant Harry Pierson among the crews. Citizens chased photos as pilots executed nose dives loop the loop and other daring maneuvers under clear skies.

Complex Accident Injures Girl Passenger on Boston Post Road

A series of crashes near Butler Garage Southport involved a trolley car and three autos, injuring a girl from Hitle. Trolley No. 1170 with crew struck a Word coupe carrying J. S. Duval and two children, one with a broken leg. The trolley then hit a Ford, then a Packard, with no arrests or police presence reported.

Body of Missing Man Found in Shelton Canal

The body of Michael Casey, 48, missing since Thursday from 982 Connecticut Avenue, was found in the Housatonic Power canal at Shelton at 12 03 p.m. by power company worker John Jubs. Medical Examiner Dr. W Cogeswell and identification by Mrs. Catherine Kennedy confirmed the death as drowning. Casey, a former foreman at Remington Arms, carried money and a Connecticut State Guard card. he survived by two brothers and two daughters. Burial in St Michael's Cemetery, Bridgeport, was planned.

Washington Proclaims Bullard Men’s Act

Workers at Bullard Rheinegring in Bridgeport Connecticut marked Labor Day by offering five hours of unpaid labor to manufacture 155 millimetre guns for the American army overseas. The Ordnance repairmen released a telegram to General Pershing stating the offer to dedicate time on the national half day to defeat the Hun.

Collector M Govern Injured at Brookfield

Brookfield reports collector M Govern was injured while visiting friends. He stumbled and broke a bone in his right leg. Dr J M Frecartin treated him at the scene and he was taken home to recover for several days.

30 Miles of German Defence Is Smashed

Allied forces smash a 30 mile German front from Arras to Peronne with Haig reporting the Drocourt Queant line breached. Thousands taken prisoner as British and French advance toward the Canal du Nord and Hindenburg defenses bend under pressure. Australian troops also capture thousands at Peronne while Aisne and Ypres sectors show rapid Allied gains.
