Eight on Boat Return Safely

Coast Guard and Bridgeport police recovered eight people from a small oyster boat in Long Island Sound after a Sunday disappearance. They told officers they spent the night at Port Jefferson and were unaware of the search. Boat Destroyed by Blast and Fire Off Fairfield Beach

A foot cabin cruiser caught fire and burned Sunday near Fairfield beach about 4 40 PM. Three occupants escaped uninjured by diving overboard as flames and an explosion engulfed the vessel, which sank after burning to the waterline. Owner Louis Dix of Bridgeport and two guests, Joseph Besl ove and Edward Beslove, reached shore safely after being picked up or swimming in. Firefighters assisted but could not save the craft, believed ignited by a gas-tank explosion, with the yacht club earlier reporting a shot from Soundview Yacht Club in Black Rock harbor.

Three Army Officers Die in Plane Collision

A formation of 16 army reserve training planes returned to base after saluting General Eisenhower when two planes in the group collided over Minneapolis.
