Cork October 25 news from The Associated Press reports Joseph Murphy a hunger striker in Cork jail died at 136 p.m. He was 35, unmarried, Irish Volunteer member and known athlete. He was one of eleven imprisoned two days before Lord Mayor MacSwiney was sent to Brixton. The hunger strike followed deaths of Michael Fitzgerald and others. Murphy was born in Lynn Massachusetts. records say he was brought to Ireland as an infant by his British-subject father Timothy Murphy a Cork shoemaker with 18 children.
