President states he will not back down on armistice stance after reviewing German government changes. He says peace prospects depend on military actions, warning that surrender is the only word if military authorities are involved.
Washington reports reveal that over two million American troops have embarked for overseas service as part of the war effort. President Wilson informed Germany he would discuss armistice terms if Germany accepts peace principles, while noting distrust of Germany’s military rulers and calling for negotiated surrender rather than peace talks with autocratic leadership. The German note and U.S. reply are transmitted via the Swiss legation to Berlin.
King Albert and Queen Elisabeth of Belgium traveled by airplane to preview Duisne. They arrived in the morning and attended events at the royal residence, engaging in formal duties and addressing officials before returning.

He cites marriage and as municipal state officer as grounds for possible deferred status. His long service in the National Guard and State Guard is noted as supporting military suitability. He was the first to register with Board 2 on September.
Richard Nelson a carpenter on a motorcycle was struck by a pay train at the North avenue crossing and died shortly after. Witness Pattalimin William Jaegers reported the incident at Worth presiuet station. Coroner John J Phelan will begin an investigation. the body was taken to the city morgue.
