The United Auto Workers and Ford Motor Co declared a 24 hour news blackout on contract talks on the 34th day of the strike involving 160000 workers. Both sides would not explain what was developing as they met separately at Ford HQ in Dearborn.
In New Britain AP wives of Fairbanks bearing Co workers oppose a $5 monthly UAW dues increase to fund strike benefits. Marion Johnston organizes other wives to oppose the hike while noting it will strain union families. Joseph Budnick, a local representative, voted against the increase as petitions circulate against the action.
General Motors issued a callback for 17799 Chevrolet and GMC trucks due to a brake power boost defect. The defect could reduce or remove power assist, though basic braking would still function with increased pedal effort. Dealers will inspect and replace the boost assembly supplied by a vendor.

He warned such outfits could flood the nation with foundations and jeopardize tax structure.

The Norwegian ship Visund rescued three survivors and four dead aboard. the Igaharu Maru picked up two survivors earlier. the Orkehov took eight bodies aboard.

He was previously vice president and general manager of the Machinery Hydraulics division in Troy Michigan. He succeeds Henry C Landsiedel of Greenwich.

Edward J. Gdovin 63 died after reportedly being crushed under the left front wheel of his car at 129 Hastings Street, Bridgeport, while at his daughter’s home. Witnesses said the vehicle rolled backward from a small incline as the driver appeared partially in the seat, dragging him under the wheel. Police and ambulance officials cited a crushed chest as the cause of death.
