Army to Inspect Armory Sites for Reserve Center
Army officials will visit Gridgeport within a month to inspect possible sites for a proposed Army Reserve training center. Capt. Joseph V. Agro, current commander at 187 Sanford Avenue, noted discussions will wait until Washington and Boston officers review options. Congress has appropriated 210000 for the project, seeking at least three acres on flat land near bus lines and utilities, outside dense industrial or residential zones. The city has aided site selection, while Mayor McLevy noted no public land was available at an August conference.
