Oath of Allegiance Shows Strange Klan Pledges in Connecticut

A 1924 account exposes a Ku Klux Klan oath in Connecticut that intertwines secrecy and loyalty with defense of white supremacy. The ritual ties obedience to the constitution loosely, mandates concealment of Klan matters, and commits members to aid Klan members and uphold the organization over ordinary law. The text notes contradictions such as promising to assist law officers while pledging to shield Klan rights and acts, illustrating the oath’s conflicting demands.
