New York dispatch reports Republican leaders in New York denying Borah has quit the campaign. They note Borah has not sent a letter canceling engagements and he continues his planned appearances in Connecticut and New York area, despite rumors of a withdrawal.
Professor Irving Fisher of Yale University, head of the Pro League Independent Voters, predicts that women will decide the election and influence Senator Brandegee’s renomination. Fisher notes strong but unexpressed sentiment against Brandegee for his League of Nations stance and opposition to progressive laws, shaping expectations for the race.
Senator William Borah of Idaho planned four Connecticut speeches for the Republican ticket but Bridgeport engagement next Thursday was canceled after hall unavailability. Hartford October 1 The Public Utilities Commission refused Bridgeport traffic official Stanley H Bullards request to delay or defer ruling on Connecticut Trolley Company fare increase to ten cents. Commission indicated decision would come soon and likely favor the company, barring the chairman’s absence due to a death in the family.
The New Idex Quicksilver Mining Company of Wyoming and McNear Inc of California filed two writs in the town clerk’s office seeking 5.2 million in attachments against A and B Co Plant Here Now. Day firm pursued 2.5 million and 100 thousand. Similar suits against the local manufacturers totaled 2.5 million on present avenue. Cases are set for return before the United States district court in October. The Quicksilver company claims the contract requires the local firm to take the entire output for 1915. McNear alleges an agreement to push the deal through for 2.5 percent commission.
