Lights Will Go on Tonight In Yale Arches Downtown

Hartford police chased and tackled a gunman in front of the Palace theater on Main Street. Policeman Nicholas P. Skripel was injured when Mattheson struck him with a pistol. two citizens helped subdue the suspect, identified as Howard T. Mattheson 30 of Hartford, charged with robbery with violence and related offenses.

Christmas lights brighten Bridgeport downtown with ceremonies

Mayor Tedesco and Santa Claus will flip the switch at 6 p.m. lighting the downtown streets from the bandstand near the YWCA on Golden Hill. Bassick Central and Harding high schools join a program featuring the Harding band, Central high chorus, vocal soloists Emanuel Costa Mary Booth and trumpet soloist Alfred Del Monti as the 11th annual display lights up over 12 000 bulbs and 350 ten foot trees installed by Anthony Peluso and Son Inc.

Police redirected units including Chief Kranyik Capt. Neary and Lt. Butkus to quell a disturbance as groups gathered from Unquowa road Round Hill road Hillcrest park and the bird sanctuary. Christmas Shopping Schedule Opens as Lighting Display Begins

Stores of the Retail division of the Chamber of Commerce will be open tonight until 9 p.m. as the street lighting display is turned on and the Christmas shopping season officially opens. Next week Monday and Thursday night openings will resume.

Morocco assails Spanish attack over Ifni border

Crown Prince Moulay Hassan charged Spanish forces attacked Moroccan territory from Ifni and ordered the army to fire back. He said two women were killed by shells fired by Spanish troops and vowed to defend Morocco’s oil and mineral interests in South Morocco, calling Ifni “our door opened on the Sahara.” The unrest at Ifni has persisted since May.

UN chief Hammarskjold to tour Middle East for peace mission

Two Teens Die In Darien Crash On Post Road

A Thanksgiving morning crash on the Post road in Darien killed Robert Edwards and Joseph Harper both 17, and Joseph L Roberts 25 and John Roberts 17, with Polly Cobb 19 also dead. Police blamed excessive speed as the cause and four hours were needed to remove the bodies from the wreckage.
