Oregon millworker heats home with sun powered system
Allen Nacheman reports Henry Mathew a 61 year old Oregon millworker built a solar heating system for his six room single story house seven years ago. The $1,000 setup uses an 8 foot roof panel with black painted tubing and a glass cover to trap solar heat. A thermostat drains pipes below freezing on cold days while an electric water heater preheats incoming water. The system provides most heating through sunlight, reducing electric costs to about 48 dollars yearly.

Ex-Beauty Queen 21 Gets 10 to 20 Year Killing Sentence
Catherine Krafft, 21, a former beauty contest winner from Springfield, Mass, was sentenced in Superior Court to 10 to 20 years for first degree manslaughter and five years for second degree assault in the March killings of Claire Ryer and wounding of her husband in Winsted. Police cited a love triangle as a possible motive. Krafft pleaded guilty last November and expressed remorse, saying she wants her son to have a normal life.

Exploited Catholic Chaplains Ask Transfer From Yale New Haven
Two Roman Catholic chaplains Frank A Mayock and Paul A Wirkus asked to be transferred from Yale New Haven Hospital claiming exploitation by the hospital and the Archdiocese of Hartford. In a letter to 110 priests they cited lack of support and a WASP mentality. They said the hospital should expand ecumenical efforts and the archdiocese should change its attitude toward priest chaplains in Catholic hospitals. They will remain at the hospital until replacements are assigned.
