Reichstag Faces Hot Debate on Royal Property
Berlin officials report an acrimonious Reichstag debate looming over settlements with the Hohenzollerns and other deposed German royals. The Hohenzollerns claim hundreds of millions in assets, including estates, castles, art, and silver, while the Prussian estate argues these holdings reverted to the state after monarchy ended. The Finance ministry plans a bill to honor most claims, provoking opposition from Democrats, Socialists, and Communists who fear excessive payouts and seek broader legal controls.
