Pedestrian Hit On Stamford Road Leaves Man Critical

Joseph Gargula sixty seven of 291 South Street is in serious condition at Stamford Hospital after being struck by a car while walking along the Boston Post Road this afternoon. He was found unconscious on the roadside by I C Williams of New Haven who notified police. Gargula suffers a fractured skull and scalp wounds. The driver of the unknown car is said to have worked at a waffle house on the Cost road and was walking toward Stamford when the accident occurred.

Annual Ball of Firemen Draws Four Thousand

At the State Armory on Main last night the Bridgeport Firemen’s Sick Benefit association held its annual ball and concert. Over 400 attended as the program opened with the orchestra, continued with Bridgeport firemen and outside talent, and closed with DeKoven quartette led by Mayor Behrens and a speech by John T. Ning. The hall featured white and red decor and electric lattice, with laurel strands and Japanese lanterns. Fire Chief Johnson and Mayor Behrens read the encores, followed by city officials taking their seats.

Visiting nurse attempts suicide. recovering in hospital

A visiting nurse identified as Miss Charda an twenty eigh, attempted to take poison here today. She was hospitalized at Danbury hospital and was reported resting comfortably and likely to recover. An associate, Miss Anderson, had been supplying temporarily and will vacate October 1 due to Eileen Finkle's resignation. Details of the poisoning remain unreleased.
