Maine Republican nominee favors strict day law
Portland Maine Nov 25 AP Arthur R B Gould the Republican candidate for United States Senator has declared himself for national prohibition and its enforcement Daniel F Field of Phillips chairman of the Republican state committee said tonight when his attention was called to the endorsement of Mr Goulds Democratic opponent Fulton Jo Redman by the Christian Civic league The following declaration upon prohibition appears in the announcement of Mr Goulds candidacy over his own signature which has been widely circulated throughout the state It seems to me that this statement is as good a stand for the prohibition people of the state of Maine to accept as is any statement made by a man who in 1922 asked the Republican organization of Hancock county to support him as a Republican candidate for the United States Senate running as a wet candidate against Hert M Fernald with the statement that he would get all the money he wanted and that the time was ripe in Maine for a wet candidate
