Medicare fee variations across Connecticut rise to west
A New Haven AP report shows Medicare doctor visit fees differ widely by region in Connecticut with maximum charges ranging from 20 dollars in eastern areas to about 22.75 dollars in western Fairfield County. Federal officials say the variance stems from four state areas. Medicare pays three quarters of the local maximum, while doctors charging less are paid their own rates. Rates are highest in commuter-heavy western Fairfield and lowest in sparsely populated eastern zones.
