New England Nuclear Plants Run Below Peak Capacity

Most of New England s six nuclear plants are not delivering full power. Only one plant can meet about 20 percent of regional demand, while four operate below capacity and one is idle. Pilgrim, Vermont Yankee, Maine Yankee, Yankee Rowe, Connecticut Yankee, Millstone Point each face repairs and regulatory limits. Despite outages, industry foresees nuclear supplying a quarter to a third of U.S. electricity by 2000.

City Employes Union Denies Election Timetable

Solid Waste Director Quits Post With DEP

Hartford AP reports Robert Schulz director of waste management for the state Department of Environmental Protection has resigned to join his consulting firm. Schulz helped craft Connecticut's 9230 million solid waste program and had been in the post since 1972. Joseph Buren served as acting director.

Plastics Firm Idles T of Winsted Employes

I Mark Industries Inc in Winsted Conn laid off seven of its 40 workers due to petroleum shortages. President John Bean said demand has fallen and material access is blocked, forcing operations to drop one shift as the plant uses petroleum by products in plastics manufacture.

Armory in Stamford Sold for $160,100 by Unnamed Agent

A Stamford armory was sold for 160,100 to an undisclosed client via sealed bid on November 16. The 63 year old building was recommended for demolition in a recent appraisal. Natural Yule Trees Out for Some Homes

The state marshal bans natural Christmas trees in apartments and homes with more than two families. Deaths Intersection Fatal car crash in Brookfield area

The Tenor family and two companions were in a head on collision on Route 7. Meyer Tenor and his wife Guy Tenor died on arrival at Danbury Hospital. Injured were Rochelle Tenor Leonard Schneller Bennis Forrest Miss Tenor and Mr Schneider all pinned in the wreckage for up to 48 minutes. Forrest suffered heart injuries a fractured left leg and multiple lacerations. The crash is under investigation by State Trooper Cyril Conrad and Brookfield police.
