French capital flight home boosts franc in middebt era
Paris reports that about half of France’s foreign bank balances accumulated abroad since World War I were brought back during the last three months. The cash returns are cited as a major cause of the franc’s rise, though budget reforms and a sinking fund also factor in. A money shortage at home drives demand for credit, with Bank of France charging 9.5 percent on first class securities loans and banks offering up to 12 to 15 percent, yet often refused due to tight funds.
