The Associated Press reports from Washington that Germany has signed the armistice, effective at six o'clock Washington time. The State Department announced at 2:45 this morning that the world war will end at 6:00 a.m. Washington time, 11:00 Paris time, with German representatives V2 Las signing the document.
London dispatch reports Berlin convulsed by violent fighting last night as Red forces occupy most of the capital. Crown prince’s palace taken and order restored by revolutionary troops. Crowds cheered long live the Republic as guards patrolled streets. Elsewhere General Gouraud entered Sedan with the French Army at 2 pm.
Washington notes on November 10 present a forecast for New England East New York and surrounding areas calling for fair skies on Monday and Tuesday with little temperature variation. The almanac lists sunrise at 6 35 am sunset and references high tide and low water times.
In Copenhagen on Saturday Nov 9 the German soldiers council tightens frontier control to stop the escape of the wealthy and officers. Iron Cross banned. National cockades and eagle insignia removed from helmets. German guard ships pulled from mine field stations and red flags raised after crews forced officers to leave.
A despatch to the Exchange Telegraph from Amsterdam reports revolutionaries have taken control of the Krupp steel works at Essen. Lieutenant Krupp Von Bohlen and Halbach, head of the Krupp works, and his wife, have been arrested.
London dispatch reports the ex-changer and former crown prince to leave with troops on Saturday, but future movements remain unsettled. Philipp Scheidemann sent a urgent cabinet message to the emperor, who shivered while reading then signed, saying it may be for the good of Germany, moved by recent empire events.
The British crossed the Franco Belgian frontier south of the Sambre river and advanced four miles east of Renaix near Brussels. American forces opened an initial Lorraine attack capturing St Hilaire Marcheville and several woods with over 100 prisoners taken.
Berlin says frontier crossing aims to separate disordered Austrian forces and not hinder demobilization. Von Mackensen's troops reportedly push through Hungary to Germany despite Budapest’s arms disposal order. Innsbruck reports Bavarians seizing the rail hub while Austrian troops flee, with 273 bodies found near the Tansbruck tracks.
In Boston on November 10 bells from the Old North church on Salem Street rang 180 years of celebratory chimes to honor the abdication of the German emperor. Patriotic tunes played from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m., marking the historic event with traditional ceremony.
COPENHAGEN November 10 news shows Emperor William abdicated. Berliners greeted the event with general rejoicing, tempered by fear of consequences and upheaval following the throne’s vacancy.
The second American army launched its initial attack in Lorraine. Its objectives were limited. Villages of St. Hilaire and Marcheville were captured, as also a number of woods.
The former German emperor and a large escort arrived at Eysden near the Dutch frontier on Sunday morning, armed and in uniform, with Field Marshal von Hindenburg possibly among the party. The ex-Kaiser alighted at Tiysden station and drew attention on the platform as companions traveled in ten rifles-bristled automobiles.
Berlin reports state that the German peoples' government has been formed in most of Berlin. The garrison joined the government, the Workmen's and Soldiers' council called a general strike, troops and machine guns pledged to the council, and guards at offices withdrawn. Frederich Ebert leads the chancellorship amid the upheaval.
