New York November 9 More than 10090 persons filled Madison Square Garden to demand lifting the blockade of Russia and to discuss broader labor troubles. Dudley Field Malone presided while James H. Maurer warned of a general Pennsylvania strike and urged officials to uphold law and order or face industrial paralysis. A telegram from Representative William E. Mason of Illinois criticized U.S. troop actions in Liberia and called the Russia blockade a crime against humanity.
Twenty eight men were arrested in a raid on an alleged gambling house at 11 State street in the early hours. The proprietor and three frequenters, all Spanish factory hands, posted $50 bonds while lawyers released. They are to be arraigned in City court. The raiders included Sergeant John Wynn and Patrolmen Larney Connelly Crotts Chaulk and Kiernan. Prisoners were taken to headquarters in two patrols. Frank Tallister of 341 State street, proprietor, held on $150 bond for trial.
New Haven November 9 Plans for a Yale war memorial honoring 215 Yale men who died in the great war were announced by George G Mason chairman of the alumni advisory board executive committee. Two committees were formed one to draft a program for sculptors and architects the other to raise 250000 as the target pledge by Yale alumni.
Ohio city witnesses street car ouster after vote capping fares prompts removal of all street vehicles. Cars, stored in Michigan, leave officials and Mayor Schreiber blaming company president Frank Coates for midnight action. Urges support from truck, jitney, and auto owners to meet the transit emergency.
Nearly 2,000 patrons were forced to leave the Fark theatre after State Policeman Frank Virelis stopped the feature The Fall of Babylon for lack of a Connecticut license. Operator John Leonard, 12 years in the business, could not obtain a license. he had arrived from Worcester, Mass. Audiences faced refunds and confusion as the crowd dispersed without incident.
In Bridgeport tomorrow a large Armistice Day parade will honor the cessation of World War hostilities. About 6,000 marchers from 46 organizations, seven bands, and three fife and drum corps will travel from North Main and North Avenue to Seaside Park for ceremonies. Major General Leonard Wood may review the parade.
