Senate committee questions sources behind a rumored McAdoo campaign fund while reporter Lang refuses to name informants. McLean testifies McAdoo would not run but would not decline, Baruch backs McAdoo as a strong nominee, and funds traced to Palmer and California supporters.
Chicago May 28. Railroad labor board urged a $2,500 yearly minimum for common laborers with a eight hour day. BM Jewell, acting president of the railroad employee department, testified that unless the board grants these demands, the men cannot guarantee acceptance of any decision. Judge Orton pressed whether Jewell aimed to influence or dictate the board’s ruling.
A one car trolley operated by Motorman Harry Gilson crashed into a heavy freight car at Barnum Avenue crossing at 5:30 last night. Gilson and six passengers injured. seven taken to Bridgeport Hospital or home. Gilson suffered a painful wound in the left thigh pierced by wood. Several passengers, including Mrs Archibald McMullen and William McMullen, lightly hurt. Police investigate.
Intercity Commerce Commission ordered five railroads to unload 8 76 car loads of wheat held in a Galveston siding and restore car service. Shippers must cooperate and bear unloading and storage costs, while railroads move grain to rail yards or public warehouses to ease terminal congestion.
The Lackawanna Journal printed on brown wrapping paper in Buffalo New York on May 28 shows a front page headline asserting meat prices rose. The unusual wraparound edition highlights a 14 1/2 cents per pound increase with a 1/2 cent uptick noted for the meat used to wrap it.
Three thousand workers from four American Woolen mills in Lawrence marched to the summer home of William M. Wood to show support as he faces a New York federal indictment for alleged profiteering. Mills closed at 3 pm for the demonstration. A subsequent Amalgamated Textile Workers meeting announced a one-day strike in all city mills next Tuesday to back Wood and protest the Justice Department action.
May 23 reports say anti government demonstrations were held today by Gabriele D Annunzio's signa. The protests focus on demands from soldiers and the signing group.
Willian A. Schenck head of the M. B. Sarentk division of Bassick Co Bridgeport today bought a large factory in Meriden at Center North Colony and Britannia streets from J. D. Berson Co via Mrs. Walter H. Bradjoy treasurer. Price about 100000. The plant was built thirty years ago for Meriden Bronze Co and is now used by the Berven Co and others with no changes planned.
The Con specticut Aerial Transportation big flying boat will take off at 2 10 p m carrying a bundle of Bridgeport Evening Posts from The Post building in Middle street to Westport Seaside park. Pilot Lieut Joseph Remsion will fly the Seagull model to land if possible, otherwise drop the papers for Westport newsdealers to sell on the waterfront.
Prosecuting Attorney Alexander L Delaney told by Mayor Ison to enforce Sunday closing laws for grocery stores and markets. Jewish Saturday observers are exempt if they close Saturday and stay closed Sunday. Mayor acts on a committee of market operators complaining many stores stay open seven days, mainly in outlying city sections.

Enrique, Chihuahua's military governor, was said to have conferred with Villa on Tuesday.
Catholic Charity drives a tag sale to fund the Bureau’s work assisting women and girls. Parish committees, including 70,000 represented across three parishes, organize the drive with planned stewarding and a central community house to aid employment and registry efforts. The initiative partners with national Catholic women’s groups to build a protective program for women and girls.
Stamford May 2 Profs David Todd said today he will attempt to receive signals from Mars in August. He plans to fly an aircraft to catch signals from the planet while it will be about 30,000,000 miles from Earth, the closest approach in 500 years. The flight will be piloted by Major R W Schroadter holder of the world altitude record.
