An unknown suitor fires at a 17 year old girl near Fairfield Avenue and escapes. A man reports receiving unsigned notes from a dent suitor to the police as investigators open inquiries into the incident and motive.
A mysterious lover allegedly angry at unreturned affection is blamed for an ambush shooting that wounded 17 year old Helen Moszaros near a carnival on Hancock Avenue Bridgeport. She was shot in the back and shoulder while walking with two young men. witnesses and police gathered at the scene and at Bridgeport Hospital where her condition was listed as fairly comfortable.
NEW YORK May 18 Allan A Ryan financier disclosed tonight has written and cabled to his wife in Europe to return home to discuss developments in the investigation of poison pen letters one of which he received naming Mir's. Ryan's name will that of George Maxwell indicted as the author May Cross Himself. Mr Tiyan plans to go to Europe to see Mrs Ryan if she finds it convenient to return now but he prefers that she come. Ryan son of Thomas Fortuar yan instigated the investigation after receiving the one mentioning Mrs Ryan. since then 147 poison pen letters over ten years have surfaced and caused breakups, a death by self action and insanity of a husband. investigators compare handwriting with a woman in New York and plan arrest accordingly.
Washington May 18 President Harding commuted the prison terms of Paul and Fred Wolf of Quincy for war fraud. Fred Wolf’s sentence was reduced to one year and one day, while his son received two years. The men were convicted of overcharging the government for leather goods sold during the war. Support from senators and representatives aided the effort over several months.

STAMFORD May 19 Special to The Telegram The feud between Mayor Phillips and the Common Council widened after the mayor vetoed a council salary increase for acting police chief William Brennan. The council had approved a $750 raise retroactive to Brennan’s tenure, which the mayor called unconstitutional as a gratuity. The council plans to pass the raise with parental approval at next meeting. Secret Democratic talks indicated Captain Latham will not be approved, leaving three candidates for mayor to consider for council action.
