Burglars Loot Leake and Nelson Offices on Ash Street
Burglars broke into the Leake and Nelson company offices at 235 Ash Street, smashing a rear window and forcing a door. Two large floor safes, about six feet tall, were ripped open with the combination locks knocked off, cash amount undetermined. Papers were scattered as workers had left by 5:15 p.m. The break was noticed shortly before 5:20 by watcher Joseph Kvaney Jr. The safes, 17 years old and bought during WWII, contained important documents.
