Escapees nabbed after Fairfield jail break at Camp Omans

Francis Lajoie,32, one of three escapees from Fairfield County jail, was captured at 5:20 p.m. after a failed rooftop escape from the old Camp Omans building at 915 Old Town Road. He had stolen a car and hid in the woods after fleeing with two companions, while police sought Mandell and Szyzik linked to the robbery of Anthony Chagnon.

Assembly backs two week recess in session

Republican lawmakers in Hartford voted in House and Senate caucuses to suspend the unemployment relief special session until April 8 to await congressional action on unemployment compensation and anti recession measures. Lawyer Convicted of Embezzlement in New Haven

A six by six jurors found New Haven attorney Nelson Harris guilty on 28 counts of embezzlement and one count of theft after nearly six hours of deliberation. He faced 42 embezzlement counts and one theft count. The judge directed acquittal on remaining embezzlement charges. Harris allegedly misappropriated 74111 from housing corporations he led. Sentencing set for March 28. he remains free on 10000 bond while a motion to set aside the verdict is heard next week.
