The Board of Education authorized Augusta Mendel to form a joint committee of educators and laypeople to study needs for a new high school. It postponed appointing an architect to draw blueprints and aid site selection as redevelopment plans may shift population and change where the school is needed. The committee will include principals teachers and PTA members and study whether adding a 11th and 12th grade is feasible. The architect motion failed 6-1.

Cape Canaveral Florida March 10 AP the Vanguard satellite rocket is expected to launch sometime in the midweek but the Navy has not disclosed a precise schedule. The Navy previously tried to fire the fourth Vanguard test vehicle last Friday and Saturday with delays blamed on an absent crane operator and weather evaluation. School board to open bids on West End elementary
