Challenges Filed In Bay State On McCarthy Ballot

None Found Alive In Mine Disaster

The 21 miners trapped in a salt mine elevator shaft near Calumet Louisiana were found dead Friday. Rescue crews located 16 victims in a tunnel 3,000 feet from the shaft and five more later, as relatives at the mine headquarters mourned. A Cargill spokesman called it the greatest tragedy in the company’s history.

South Vietnamese rangers defended the U S Marine base at Khe Sanh as a North Vietnamese company emerged from a tunnel near the base.
