Charges The Cloister With Soliciting Members Too Soon
New Haven March 2 Jaig stirred to its depths over the claim the exclusive Secret society The Cloister of the Sheffield Scientific school has violated the inter fraternity agreement. Formal charges have been filed with the student council which is reporting to the faculty of the Thai department of the university and a decision is expected tomorrow. A member of the council said tonight that the penalty was either closing the doors of the society for the remainder of the school year or dismissing the members from college. The charges are that members solicited freshmen to join before the date under the inter fraternity agreement they had any right to approach. Members said the society arranged a liberate banquet for the freshmen Monday night and that the student council interrupted the affair resulting in the banquet going untouched. Members of the colony questioned include R. V W. Hinessar of the Chicago lumber magnate J. B. Platt of Portland Oregon Adams New Haven RB HI Gibson Canyon City Cal and J.B. Selover Cleveland. Thorne Murphy head of the council said the faculty had in nearly every case endorsed the action of the student council in disciplinary matters and he felt that it might do so here. Murphy is the former football and baseball star and son of Mke Murphy Yale's veteran track and football coach.
