Washington March 3 After eight years of Wilsons Democratic administration ends today with officials winding down for noon tomorrow. President Wilson plans to practice law, while Harding visits the White House for courtesy calls as inauguration preparations shift to the Republican hand.
President Wilson announced he will enter a partnership with Bainbridge Colby of New York after leaving the White House. The firm will open offices in New York and Washington and is expected to focus on international law amid postwar opportunities. Colby declined to discuss details.
An extraordinary grand jury headed by Raymond F. Almirau, formed in August 1919 to probe for an overpowering crime, today urged an investigation of the New York county district attorney's office and recommended replacing elected DAs with appointments by the appellate division of the Supreme Court. The jury said it could not complete its inquiry into the county office.

Washington March 4. Efforts to override Wilsons veto of the Fordney emergency tariff bill failed in the House by a vote of 201 to 132. The bill aimed to aid farmers but the president said it would not relieve distress and would hurt foreign trade, urging broader, constructive measures and a resumption of normal industrial activity.
Washington reports frantic endgame as night sessions end the eleventh hour push for bills. The $995,000,000 navy bill faced likely defeat while the $40,000,000 Sundry Civil bill moved toward passage. Muscle Shoals power funding was doomed as a bargaining chip to secure the Sundry bill.
In New York on March 8, indictments were returned by a January grand jury naming nearly 40 corporations and individuals affiliated with the Marble Contractors Association. They face charges tied to anti trust violations and related conduct.
Protesters from Bridgeport Stratford Milford New Haven and nearby towns jammed a General Assembly hearing to oppose a bill by Senator John N Brooks to levy tolls on the new Washington bridge. Only supporters were Brooks and East Haddam representative Sanford. With strong opposition and no backing, the measure appears headed for withdrawal.
Lawrence T. Gallagher won re election as exalted ruler of Bir port lodge 685 BP Co defeating Mayor Clifford B. Wilson by 249 votes. Final tallies gave Gallagher 1192 to Wilson 323 with results announced at 1 15 this morning. Officers elected include Keeley Bales Mc Manus Ne vins Finn and others.
The joint appropriations and military affairs committee in Hartford saw all measures for ex service member bonuses pulled from consideration. Legion and VFW delegates from 200 towns urged higher state aid, arguing veterans’ sacrifices in Belgium and at the Valley Forge deserved substantial support, while some officials pressed for clearer use of interest income and capital preservation.
Washington March 4 A two year fight between John Belton Williams of Richmond retired comptroller of the currency and Senator George P. McLean chairman of the banking committee reaches a new low as Williams accuses McLean of promising to block a negative report. McLean counters that he would favor the nomination, forced by conscience and a prior pledge to a partisan policy. Williams says McLean knew a favorable report was required for passage. London dispatch reports Lloyd George delivering a scathing rebuke of German bad faith to German Foreign Minister Simons at St James’s Palace. The Allied leaders pressed Germany to sign reparations terms within four days or face alternative conditions, with Briand contributing much of the argument detailing Allied losses and burdens.
Berlin reports state the German government refuses to sign the Allied demand for 226 billion gold marks and that Foreign Minister Simons is limited to counter proposals. The cabinet, which extended its session, has not authorized Simons to depart from the proposals already made. Observers say the four day limit blocks new talks and the penalties threaten Germany’s economy with ruin and little benefit to the Allies.
Washington March 3 Signatures by President Wilson on the regulation to repeal virtually all of the war time laws were announced from the White House.
A Toronto report claims editor Henry Potter Potter was kidnapped near Ford estate on February 18 after accusing Henry Ford of anti Semitism. The piece also notes U S Senate confirmation of Norman H Davis as undersecretary of state and related military and patent appointments.
