Hens Scramble for High Honor in Egg Contest
In the seventeenth week at Storrs the top three tied for first with 49 eggs each. Barred Rocks from West Hampton Beach, Rhone Island Reds from Pittsfield, and White Leghorns from Wallingford share the lead, while White Wyandottes from Bridgeton place second with 46 eggs and two other pens tie for third with 45. The Oregon pen from Corvallis and Braeside Poultry Farm's White Leghorns tie for fourth with 41. Total output reaches 3,275 eggs, up nearly 470 from last week, amid notes on weathered straw causing lung trouble in some coops.
