Harvard Honors McNamara With Doctor of Laws at Commencement
Defense Secretary Robert S. McNamara received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree at Harvard University's 1962 commencement in Cambridge. The ceremony welcomed about 15 000 attendees as 14 other notable figures received honorary degrees including David Bruce Laurence Gould Walter Mondale and Chesney Martin Jr. The event marked Harvard’s oldest annual academic ceremony with speeches praising McNamara’s leadership of the United States defense effort.
