Elementary Schools Set For Changes

Bridgeport plans temporary double sessions in several elementary schools starting September under Supt. Lester S. Silverstone. The move, to ease overcrowding until new middle schools are ready in six months to five years, also shifts some classes, closes Jackson School in West Bend, and changes grade numbers. North End and East Side crowds should ease with new middle schools, as the district had just ended double sessions in the previous year. Chief points include shifting grade configurations at Hallén School for grades 6 and 7.

Bridgeport and Stratford Agree to Continue Airport Talks

Stratford Mayor Hugh C Curran confirmed this week that talks with Bridgeport on airport improvements will proceed. He apologized for missing the May 29 meeting at the airport administration building but stated a continued desire to pursue discussions with Bridgeport officials.

Workman Killed By Explosion In Norwalk Beach Cottage

Westport Norwalk fire crews fought a blast that wrecked a two story beach cottage. Harald C. Post, 30, of 17 Scott Street Norwalk, died after exiting the living room to a sun room as an upstairs floor collapsed. James Flanagan, owner of the house, attempted a救 rescue when a violent blast blew out windows and flames engulfed the structure. Fire crews arrived at 12 53 p.m. two firefighters injured from smoke inhalation.

ICC orders Norfolk to absorb three lines in merger path

Washington AP reports the Interstate Commerce Commission ruled the Norfolk and Western Railway must take over three smaller eastern railroads. The unanimous decision could clear a path for the $6 billion Penn Central merger of New York Central and Pennsylvania Railroads, with merged operation hoped to begin August first.
