Building Boom in Nation Threatened With Collapse
A nationwide survey warns the postwar construction boom risks collapse as bids inflate costs. Officials urge restraint, improved financing, and public guidance, noting wage scales, material prices, and labor demand fuel the surge. The report blames speculative builders, unions, and materials costs while recommending delayed public works and transparent reporting to curb inflation.

Sioux Fight Shift From Arrows to Court Over Land Claims
A Washington DC National Geographic Society bulletin notes the Sioux, once landholders of the west, now sue the Federal Government for hundreds of millions over ancestral homelands. The piece reviews Sioux history from early exploration and names to the 1826 Prairie du Chien treaty and subsequent losses, relocations, and battles. It links Sioux geographic names to U.S. westward expansion and highlights Sitting Bull, Custer, and the shift to legal action to recover land. It mentions a later prairie massacre and the ongoing pursuit of reservations and peaceable means, concluding with the court demand.
