Con Ed’s Big Allis Back in Business
New York AP report says Big Allis, Consolidated Edison’s 1000 megawatt generator, is back online after months of outages. Officials say brownouts are greatly reduced as the plant provides about one fifth of city demand, with subway and elevator service improving and rest of grid drawing from distant power sources to avoid failures. Repair efforts totaled billions of kilowatt hours and millions in costs over the outage period.
