Father Distraught by Charge Against His Son

Irving Fields, 32, of Broad Street, was arrested at police headquarters on charges of soliciting Red Cross funds without authorization and pocketing the money. His distraught father said he would prove a mistake, claiming the son worked for Mr. Lashar and would clear the matter up. Corrigan to Get Honor Award for Halting Runaway

Bridgeport residents honor Traffic Officer Patrick J. Corrigan for stopping a team of runaway horses at Main and Congress streets last Saturday. He likely saved lives and property but suffered severe injuries. The Board of Police Commissioners unanimously voted to decorate him with a gold bar of merit, to be presented June 15. Jail Prisoners to Go to Work on Highways

Connecticut will put county jail inmates to work on state highways and for farmers starting Monday. About 20 prisoners will be transported to Black Rock turnpike for 10 day assignments under BR Donnelly supervision with armed guards and minimum groups of five for farm work. Additional prisoners already labor at the Naugatuck Valley Ice Co and county courthouse grounds as the program expands.
