Draftee Mourns Missing Bronze Pocket Piece at Station
A Bridgeport registrant complained of not receiving a bronze pocket piece issued by the Common Council for local draftees under the selective service plan. After public embarrassment, Chairman Lavery secretly gave him one at the railroad station before the Camp Devens train. The man boasted of the token, declaring he was now “as good as any of you guys.”
