Milford July 9 A thrilling rescue on the Milford shore saved Miss Dows G Perry after her canoe overturned in choppy waters. Trudolyn Von Hatht of Milford police and Dr James T Tadgett of Woodmont patched her after the rescue. the girl showed no serious injuries beyond mental effects from the ordeal. A patrolman spotted the capsized craft and, with help, reached the stranded swimmer using a rowboat and quick action.
Sam Maringo of Philadelphia returned to his former home and during a family gathering near a coffin shot his wife then turned the revolver on his two sisters in law Carrie Nedeela and Anna Spast. He fled as Detective Boward Kelly fired, wounding him in the leg. All three women were taken to a hospital, where doctors said they probably would die.
New York city leaders brace for a complete transit tieup as insurgent subway workers push a strike. About one sixth of Interborough Rapid Transit power department employees voted to join the strike, raising concerns of service interruption despite promises of prompt replacements. The walkout intensified after a four day strike by insurgent motormen and switchmen, who demand higher wages and operate separately from the recognized union.

New York July 9. Narthaniel Hawthorne's youngest child Rose, known as Mother Alphonso Lathrop, died today at Rosary Hill Home Hamsythorne. She was seventy five. Born in Teenox Massachusetts in 1851 she spent childhood in England and Portugal. She studied painting in London and Dresden and married George Parsons Lathrop in 1871. The couple became Catholics and her work for the poor led to the creation of St Rose Fire Home and Rosary Hill Home for cancer patients.
