Frenchmen Honor Six Ocean Flyers As Paris Marks Independence Day

Paris July 4 six American airmen who followed Lindbergh’s Atlantic trail were honored in ceremonies at Le Matin and a Fourth of July banquet. Commander Byrd called on Marshal Foch and visited Mme Nungesser to offer comfort for her son’s fate. The events included cheers, flags, and taps as crowds celebrated American independence with French hosts.

Floggers Indicted After Georgia Whipping Incident

Five men named by the Stephens county grand jury face charges of assault with intent to murder riot and carrying pistols in connection with the June 12 flogging of Mrs Anstey Brown and her 15 year old son Floyd near Toccoa Georgia. The defendants include W G Acree Claude Groover Elmer Clair Charles Thomas and T R Lowery. New warrants were issued and 11 men have been arrested in related cases. Mrs Brown and her son were abducted by a 12 man Ku Klux Klan group and subjected to a brutal whipping after being warned to leave town. The boy tried to intervene and was also whipped. Authorities expect further inquiries.

Fireworks Draw 35000 at Seaside Park Bridgeport

A Seaside Park celebration drew about 35 000 spectators for Bridgeport’s annual fireworks display. Police estimated 9 000 through traffic. two Coast Artillery members were injured when a truck overturn ed during maneuvers. Coolidge Dons Cowboy Outfit for Birthday Surprise

Rapid City dispatch reports President Coolidge celebrated his fifty fifth birthday at the White House by donning a full cowboy regalia presented on the front lawn by boy scouts and Terry Mont cowboys.
