Deadwood South Dakota July 3 Associated Press Governor Al Smith of New York receives an invitation to spend summer in the Black Hills near Pac tola 12 miles from the state game lodge where President Coullage is staying Organizers plan a pine log summer home if he accepts and will call a meeting to form an Al Smith Democratic club in Deadwood to coincide with the launch.
Richard Grace, famed stunt flyer, saw his Pacific hop to San Francisco or Los Angeles delayed after two failed takeoffs as a tire burst on each attempt. Naval help was sought from Pearl Harbor for replacement tires. Grace aims for San Francisco then Los Angeles if fuel holds, with a 120 mph plane carrying 322 gallons for about 29 hours in the air.
Paris July 3 By Associated Press four members of the America crew will visit Madame Nungesser mother of the French flyer killed with his companion during the attempt to fly to America. The party will lunch with Louis Bleriot following the example of Lindbergh Chamberlin and Levine.
Emergency hospital treated 21 Fourth of July celebrants for gunshot and powder burns with two doctors and a nurse on duty. By midnight 67 had been treated since Friday. many more by private physicians. Injuries include Adele LaRue burns to eye, Alice ONeal facial wound, io Bruno hand injury severing an artery, and several blank cartridge burns. Other cases involve Raymond Wells, Harold Bonnyman, Thomas Griffith, Frank Nooke among others.
Greenwich July 3 Associated Press Mrs Ind W Henry of Sound Beach received the Distinguished Service Medal from the War Department for her son Captain Clifford W Henry who earned bravery under fire in World War I. Presented by Major General Edwards, the ceremony honored Henry who commanded Co F 102nd Infantry and helped seize Vig nuelles before being killed following a blast. Harvard graduate, he was among many officers and notables at the estate of Herbert L Batterlee as the Greenwich American Legion marched on the lawn.
Varied programs announced for holiday observance as officials warn of hazards during the period. Fire and traffic incidents reported citywide with injuries and accidents. drivers urged to follow safety rules amid planned events and weather concerns.
Newark July 3 John Warner fifty eight known as animal man and proprietor of a noted private menagerie was found murdered in his office. He had gone to lay in wait for thieves who had been stealing stock from the menagerie. His skull was crushed by blows from a sledge hammer found beside the body. The office telephone lay by him and was disconnected, leading police to believe he had tried to call for aid after possibly capturing the marauder. No clue to the murderer was found beyond the weapon.
Dempsey fights counter stories of delaying his comeback with Sharkey as rumors persist of a late training setback. The camp denies plans to push back the July 21 Yankee Stadium bout despite personal grief and public pressure.
Salt Lake City July 3 press report states John Dempsey 34 shot and killed his estranged wife at Schenectady before killing himself. This follows Bruce Dempsey’s stabbing death years ago in the same city. Effie Dempsey seeks burial details for John. brother Jack, former heavyweight champion, bears the shock.
A small two masted schooner lay aground on Fairfield Reef about four miles from Fairfield Beach since Saturday morning. The vessel name or owner could not be confirmed. It has not floated off with the tide due to damage from grounding, and hundreds of visitors observed the stranded craft from the shore.
Federal officials seek two navigation beacons in the Housatonic near Stratford but land must be deeded to the government. Attorney General Alling Governor Trumbull and the Board of Finance and Control say the state cannot grant the land without General Assembly action, which won’t occur for two years. Proposals place one beacon west of the channel by Milford Point and another west of the channel north of Nell Island near Stratford. Federal authorities deem both beacons necessary for navigation.
Joe Palermo fifty three jailed in Benton for the murder of his nineteen year old bride of two months and her alleged admirer Robert Parello thirty at the Palermo home in Royalton Saturday night. He reportedly admits the double killing as county officers state the bride mother of a newborn baby remains hospitalized with bullet wounds from the incident.

Wayne B. Wheeler of the Anti-Saloon League publishes a patriotic prohibition creed under the title Epistle of 1927. He asserts constitutional government will reflect majority will and urges suffrage to support prohibition, claiming alcohol as a narcotic hazard that deranges citizenship and must be abolished.
Southampton reports crowds at Calshot naval flying base as Captain F T Courtney British ace and associates prepare the Dornier Napier whale for a trans Atlantic hop from London to New York and back. Refueling stops are Valentia Ireland and Topsail Newfoundland. Courtney plans direct New York London return. Radio reports will go through Marconi to North American Newspaper Alliance and Westminster Gazette. The Telegram will receive exclusive flight updates.
A Bridger holiday program features fireworks at Seaside Park, a 350 troop parade, 12 baseball games, and a band concert with a dance. National Guard and Naval Militia units lead the events, with contingents marching from the Army infirmary to Park Avenue, weather permitting. rain will cancel and fireworks may be postponed to the first clear night.

He flew to Boston procured a part and returned by train to Bridgeport to locate the craft while a Stratford yacht club member heard plane noise near the river.
One man died and another was killed or fatally injured in a Post road crash near Westport shortly after midnight. Adolph D Aulisa, 22, of Westport faces charges of operating under the influence and Slaughter. Salvatore Lavernito, 42, and Alphonso Lavernito, 25, both of New Haven, died. Coroner Jabe Phelan will hold an inquest Thursday.
Westport July 3 A collision on Shore road near the William P. Eno estate left six people injured. Samuel H. Ferris 41 of Bridgeport suffered possible severe injuries. Mrs Marion Genario 22 Worwalk and Miss Antoinette Genario 5 Worwalk and New York resident Miss Josephine Garriello 20. Miss Helen Brennan 20 Crystal hotel Norwalk with a fractured skull. Felix Brisco 26 Stamford with possible fractured skull and other injuries. James A Bierman Dorchester mass drove a coupe owned by Jeanette Connelly Bridgeport.
