Samuel Mills Hawley president of the Bridgeport Savings Bank died suddenly at his home at 224 Brooklawn avenue while seated at the supper table with his three youngest children. He had been at his desk the previous day, and physicians have not yet determined the cause. Hawley, born June 24, 1877, in Bridgeport, attended St Pauls in Concord NH and Yale University, graduating in 1895. He rose from assistant treasurer to treasurer, then became president in 1921. He was involved with United Congregational church, Bridgeport hospital, and the American Bankers Association, and served on boards of First National Bank of Bridgeport and Westchester Tire Insurance. He married Cornelia Hincks. they had four children. His wife died in 1918.
