Excess Profits Tax Blamed for High Prices
New York January 20 William Colver a member of the federal trade commission told the Purchasers association of New York that the excess profits tax is one of the foundation stones of the present intolerable price structure. He said the tax would lower prices as much as 4 to 5 dollars in the consumer’s pocket per taxed dollar. Colver admitted the tax was not intended as a revenue device and suggested a direct sales tax as an alternative.
