Walsh Gives Crime Data Shows Mixed City Yearly Trends
Police Supt Joseph A Walsh reported to the Board of Police Commissioners that Bridgeport crime data for the 1966 fiscal year show armed robberies up from 20 to 28 and aggravated assaults rising from 74 in 1963 to 89 in 1966. Murders increased from eight to nine and forcible rapes from five to six. Burglaries declined from 1 584 in 1965 to 1 369 in 1966, auto thefts from 952 to 891, strong arm robberies from 58 to 128, larceny over $50 from 626 to 579, and larceny under $50 from 1 392 in 65 to 4 180 the prior year. Total crime decreased about 11.9 percent with complaints dropping from 54 108 in 1965 to 45 174 in 1966.

Petrel Reaches Stamford After Atlantic Gale
The 70-foot sea vessel Petrel with a crew of 10 reached Stamford harbor Tuesday night after a weeklong voyage from a Long Island Sound anchorage. The ship suffered heavy damage in a fierce Atlantic gale that left its sails torn and decks salt-crusted. Five crew members were rescued earlier and taken to Norfolk, while the remaining five were later picked up by rescue vessels.
