Captain Robert M. Smith, who sent the first cablegram across the Atlantic in 1866 for Cyrus W. Field, died at his Port Chilther home aged fifty two. He served in the Civil War as a military telegraph officer and was for years chief operator for Western Union.
An attachment of $50 000 was made yesterday on property belonging to Dr F Adams G L Scheiber and I W Johnson all of this city by Leah Hoffman of New Britain who seeks damages to that amount for injuries alleged to have been received in an automobile accident November 25 1923. On that date she alleges an automobile occupied by the three defendants struck the machine she ran on Connecticut avenue this city. Her injuries have maimed her for life she charges. All the property against which attachment proceedings were brought is located on Boston avenue. The case is returnable to Superior court Hartford March 1.
