New York bandits steal safes in two robberies
A pair of daring daytime safeburglary raids by a bold criminal band terrorizing New York last week culminated in two more thefts. They first struck the Automat at Sixth Avenue, taking a safe filled with nickels, then entered the Anthony Orlando butcher shop on Mott Street, loaded a safe into an auto and fled, leaving receipts behind. The burglars abandoned an initial attempt to move the Mott Street safe through a side door. Police report the band’s shift to safe theft as authorities seek leads.
