The British debt bill passed the Senate by a wide margin, 70 to 13, with final passage approved. The measure now returns to the House for minor changes as reductions in interest rate and opposition considerations shape the conclusion.

Dublin Feb 16 The association representing about 20000 neutral IRA members sent to Free State leaders and Republican heads a one month truce proposal to allow peace negotiations. It urges cessation of military activity and arrests, while during the truce peace proposals are considered. Replies asked by Feb 25. De Valera holds firm preferring a republic and urges England to accept earlier proposals as an alternative to the Anglo Irish treaty.
Washington February 16 Congress neared final approval of the British debt funding settlement after the Senate passed the House bill. The plan finances 4.604 billion dollars over 62 years with reduced interest, subject to congressional approval for settlements with other nations. Debates centered on interest rates and the scope of congressional oversight. Munson Shaw, aquor lporter and Racquet and Tennis Club member, was arrested in New York on charges of conspiracy to violate the Volstead Act and released on bond.
The Harding administration restored the shipping bill to its former Senate status after a brief pause for British debt settlement measures. White House aides say President Harding will not call a special session to push the national Merchant marine act if the bill fails to pass.

A spectacular fire at the Marmon-Wairfield company garage in the rear of 1295 Fairfield Avenue damaged 100 new autos and the building. Officials blamed a defective wire as the start, with flames erupting from the northwest corner. Firemen battled the blaze, preventing spread to nearby structures and saving the cars. Estimated damage set at 25,000 dollars.
A Bridgeport Bar Association banquet featured a fiery speech against mobe rule and mass-driven policy shifts. Speaker Littleton warned against centralized power, urged balanced government, and cited Russia Germany and Italy as cautions. Albany detectives arrested John F. Derby alias Marshall as the ring leader of a New Year’s Eve jewel robbery at the Carman apartment in Albany. The case ties to a Buffalo victim Mrs Trent Schoellkopf who lost jewels valued at about 500000. The event occurred during a late night party at 78 Lancaster Street and involved wealthy broker Charles Y Hugo Schoellkopf.

Two elder bank messengers Robert Johnson aged 62 and William Buck aged 65 were wounded in a pistol duel with three bandits who held up a payroll valise containing 9400 dollars. The clash erupted after the bandits dashed from a halting position and fired over twenty shots as the messengers tried to resist and keep the money in the Pacific Bank run to Saeran Brothers offices.
