Speeders show conviction drop as Connecticut drives face fewer speeding suspensions. State records show 9285 auto drivers convicted last year versus 10,346 in 1956 with 4,037 out-of-state suspensions questioned for effectiveness. Connecticut drivers see 30 day suspensions while out-of-staters vary.

The Hartford Public Utilities Commission rejected Bridgeport Gas's request for a rate increase that would have raised about 193 600 in annual gross revenue. It ordered a revised schedule reducing anticipated annual revenue to 98 800 based on 1958 gas sales and extended a six tenths of a cent per 100 cubic feet increase for typical customers.
Benjamin Levine of the 21st Ward Republican committee will lead a local drive to draft Justice Raymond E. Baldwin for the GOP gubernatorial nomination. He plans to present a resolution to the Republican State Central Committee at the June convention as Baldwin nears retirement after joining the bench in 1949.

A 20 year old woman, Roberta Joan Darcy, was held as witness.
Secretary of Defense McElroy appointed Roy W. Johnson of General Electric as director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency and said the Air Force should man future manned space ships. Johnson, 52, will start April 1 and work with top scientists. ARPA will receive initial funding of 10 million dollars with more planned.
A boy reported dead returns home after a hospital siege cited in continued coverage. Authorities say the incident involved a prolonged standoff and security operations leading to the boy's release and subsequent home arrival.
Hartford AP report says State Attorney General Bracken ruled that the press and public may be barred from executive sessions of any governmental board or commission under the right to know law. He clarified that closed sessions may occur at any time for deliberations requiring official action by the body. The ruling followed an inquiry from Fairfield State Hospital trustees chair John H. Caldwell.
